Licensed Master Social Worker
Hi my name is Taqwa , welcome! Taking that first step in deciding to embark on bettering your mental health is the hardest part and you are already here! I am passionate about making that journey easier for you to navigate.
I became a therapist due to the stigma I grew up around surrounding mental health.
I am an Arab-American and was raised in a Muslim community. I was always looking for someone to guide me through my mental health challenges. I wanted to help others that felt lost when it came to their mental health, especially people of color where mental health holds so much stigma.
I completed my BA in interdisciplinary studies at the University of Baltimore in Criminal Justice, Psychology, and English in order to better understand the world through an intersectional lens. I received my masters in clinical social work at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. I have experience working in the foster care system, hospital setting, and within community mental health.
My approach is rooted in empathy, understanding racial and cultural identities, and a deep commitment to addressing the impact of trauma on mental health. I specialize in trauma-informed modalities including training in EMDR therapy, Internal family systems, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) , grief therapy, religious trauma therapy, art-therapy, and acceptance commitment therapy (ACT).
My goal is to create a nurturing and empowering space where you can explore your emotions, process your trauma, and understand your inner world. I am here to help you navigate the complexities of life, find resilience, and develop coping skills that work for you.
I have a special focus on working with teens and young adults, but love working with all age groups. I am also passionate about working with clients who identify within the LGBTQIA2S+ community and create a safe space to explore your true identity.
Deciding to seek help when it comes to your mental health can feel scary and confusing. I am here to guide you along the way. I know the importance of finding your voice, understanding yourself, and nurturing how you show up for yourself and within the world.
In a society that can feel overwhelming and isolating at times I hope to be a guide for you to find yourself again and understand the beauty within yourself that may have been clouded for so long. Together, we can work towards your emotional well-being, personal growth, and a brighter future. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a session. I look forward to being a part of your healing journey.
