Mechia Sydnor, LCPC
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
As an experienced Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), I provide a safe and thoughtful environment where clients--individuals and couples-- and I collaborate to develop a deeper understanding of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral patterns that may be interfering with their quality of life, sex life, and intimacy in their relationship. I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University and have since provided mental health services to adults in private practice and agency settings in Maryland. My clinical areas of expertise include adult clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, life transitions, relationship issues, and racial trauma among others.
Further, I take decolonizing mental health and my role as a social justice advocate seriously. I use theoretical approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, mindfulness, positive psychology techniques, and narrative therapy to conceptualize, diagnose, create treatment plans, and intervene. I tailor my therapeutic approaches to meet the individual needs of my clients. I help clients evaluate and identify and challenge maladaptive behaviors and thinking patterns to replace them with effective strategies to help them develop more fulfilling lives and relationships.
All people should be treated equally and as humans first. It is important for all people to feel safe and that they have a place of belonging. Through my practice, I try to ensure that my clients feel heard, seen, felt and supported. I also work to make sure that my clients have a safe space to navigate challenges and feelings so that they can begin to heal. If you are ready to take this journey, please contact me to begin.
